Another Win in BTCC – obp Products In British Touring Car Championship

Hello.
How are you today?

Mat Jackson wins Oulton race three!

Mat Jackson is one of the Top BTCC drivers to use the obp products.

Mat Jackson won the third race in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship races at Oulton Park.

Jackson was drawn on pole position for the reversed grid and led every lap in his Airwaves Ford Focus – although into the first corner he had been headed by impressive rookie Nick Foster’s fast-starting WSR BMW.

Honda’s Gordon Shedden came through from fourth and into second early on but was unable to make an impression on the fleeing Jackson and so had to settle for the runners-up spot.

      
      
Mat uses the obp Hydraulic Fly Off Handbrake in his Airwaves sponsored Ford Focus.
   
Mat Jackson is currently 3rd in the BTCC standings and is in easy reach of the top spot.

Winner In BTCC – obp Products Used In British Touring Car Championship

Hello.
How are you today?
obp can now confirm that the obp products are being used in the BTCC (British Touring Car Championship).
Mat Jackson is one of the Top BTCC drivers to use the obp products.
      
      
Mat uses the obp Hydraulic Fly Off Handbrake in his Airwaves sponsored Ford Focus.
   
That Mat Jackson started the final race of the BTCC day at Donington Park from tenth, but was in second when the safety car gathered up the pack at the start of lap two should tell you all you need to know about the chaotic race he would ultimately win.
Jackson needed little time to put his red Focus into the lead, driving past MacDowall on the Dunlop straight to take the racing line for the chicane.
The pack could not catch Jackson, however, who went to claim what he called a “great win” for the Airwaves Racing team and Ford
Mat Jackson is currently 3rd in the BTCC standings.

New Full Alloy Hydraulic Handbrakes – obp Race Products

How are you today?

The obp new product making machine is back and on full power. We have some fantastic products in the pipe line that I am positive you will find very useful and a must for your race car.

The 1st for 2011 that obp have been working on and have now completed are the FULL Alloy Hydraulic Handbrakes.

This unit has an Aluminium Handle and an Aluminium Cylinder Box.

On normal Alloy handbrakes it has an Alloy handle but with a Mild Steel cylinder box.

The obp handbrake is approx 150 g lighter than other Alloy handbrakes and over 200 g lighter than the Mild Steel type.

The Alloy handle is manufactured out of 8mm Aircraft grade Aluminium with a Super Grip rubber handle, the cylinder box is manufactured out of Aircraft grade 3mm Aluminium.

The handle pivots oil impregnated bronze bearings that give a good balance between weight, strength, wear resistance, conformability and durability in operation.

Why Use An Intercooler? obp Tech Session

This is a little bit of basic info about how intercoolers work. 

 

How does an intercooler work?

Intercooler only work in conjunction with a turbocharger and Super Chargers / Blowers. The outlet air from the turbocharger and Super Charger / Blower heats up because of the work that has been done to compress it. Compressed air heats up. The increase in temperature results in a decrease in density, which means that less air enters the combustion chamber. An intercooler is used to cool down the compressed air, which increases the density. Denser air makes for better combustion (more power). Additionally, the denser, cooler air helps reduce the chances of knock. Two types of intercoolers are available on the market: air-to-air and water-to-air.

Where do I mount the intercooler?

Mount the intercooler as close as possible to the turbo and intake manifold. The shorter the path from the turbo outlet to the inlet manifold, the less the pressure drop and throttle-lag will be. Ensure that the intercooler gets direct airflow across the core for optimal cooling.

How To Increase BHP? obp Tech Session

Hello.

I found this basic information on how to boost BHP and thought it may interest you. 

 

There are many different ways to create more horsepower from a stock engine. Here are several examples (generally in order from least to most difficult/expensive):

­Change your computer chip. Sometime­s, but certainly not always, you can change a car’s performance by changing the ROM chip in the engine control unit (ECU). You usually buy these chips from aftermarket performance dealers. It is valuable to read an independent review of the chip you are contemplating, because some chips are all hype and no performance.

Let air come in more easily. As a piston moves down in the intake stroke, air resistance can rob power from the engine. Some newer cars are using polished intake
manifolds to eliminate air resistance there. Bigger air filters and reduced intake piping can also improve air flow.

­Let exhaust exit more easily. If air resistance
or back-pressure makes it hard for exhaust to exit a cylinder, it robs the engine of power. If the exhaust pipe is too small or the muffler has a lot of air resistance then this can cause back-pressure. High-performance exhaust systems use headers, big tail pipes and free-flowing mufflers to eliminate back-pressure in the exhaust system.

Change the heads and cams. Many stock engines have one intake valve and one exhaust valve. Buying a
new head that has four valves per cylinder will dramatically improve airflow in and out of the engine and this can improve power. Using performance cams can also make a big difference.­ ­

obp and Land Speed Record Attempt

FANTASTIC NEWS
obp have been asked to get involved with a Land Speed Record Attempt!
We are so proud to be asked and to be involved with this attempt.
Obp have supplied the team with a Pro-Race pedal box to be used in the record attempting vehicle.
I went and visited Stu and his team who are building the pilot safety cage and chassis, to see if the Pro-Race unit would fit.

We were all very happy to find the obp floor mounted unit fitted perfectly with no modification needed.

Thank you to the Angelic Bulldog Project this is a fantastic project to be involved with.
The Angelic Bulldog Project will attempt to break the world land speed record at the world famous Bonneville Salt Flats.
The UK based team is currently building a stream-liner motorcycle with a projected record breaking speed of over 400mph.

A target of summer 2011 is set for the record attempt, when Gabriel Uttley the team leader and rider will take the 750hp, 6.6m long machine.

The team boasts British innovation and engineering expertise from businesses and individuals around the UK, including motorcycle design, fabrication, aerodynamics, performance, modelling, instrumentation and composites.
We will keep you up to date regarding any progress and information we get hold of.
The guys will be at quite a few shows in 2010 and 2011.
