Hello
How are you today?

Optimum Balance Products has manufactured a fantastic range of alloy swirl pots with extended JIC fittings.

obp 1 Litre Extended JIC Swirl Pot

obp 1.5 Litre Extended JIC Swirl Pot

obp 1 Litre Extended JIC Swirl Pot

This design will deliver the correct swirl required to remove the air from the returning unused fuel and cool the fuel. The cooling and the removing the air will make the fuel more effective in the combustion chamber when it is re-used, thus giving you more power and BHP.

These Swirl Pots have been designed to meet the requirements of professional race teams / drivers or the serious enthusiast who are using a fuel injected car for competition or fast road use.

A swirl pot will ensure a constant supply of fuel, minimising the risk of an injection pump failure through fuel starvation or air contamination whilst cornering hard.

Why and How to fit a Subaru WRX 3 Port Race Oil Catch Tank – obp Tech Session

Hello

How are you today?

obp Ltd have just designed an oil catch tank for the Subaru WRX, this a little bit of info about how and why you would want to fit the catch tank.

The point of a catch can is to minimize the amount of oil vapor that’s fed into an engine’s air intake and to stop oil dripping on to the race track.

Normally a 2 port Oil Catch Tank is fine and catches oil vapor from the rocker cover.

On a Subaru WRX etc. require 3 ports.

Subaru 3 Port Fitting:

1) From the Rocker Cover Breather

2) Crankcase Vent Tube / PCV Valve

3) Turbo Air Intake

The oil catch tank is plumbed into a vehicle’s PCV system to capture the excess crankcase vapors and the residual oil mist from reentering the intake track. Vehicles from the factory vent these excess crankcase vapors and residual oil right back into the intake manifold which could cause detonation and oil deposits to form in the intake track including the valves.

The oil catch tank will allow your engine to run more efficiently due to the separation of oil from the intake system.

When there is oil in your system, the result is:

1) Reduced fuel octane

2) Higher chance of engine knocks (detonation)

3) Worse emissions

4) Higher oil consumption.

The Subaru Air/Oil Separator will solve all of these problems.

As the induction system operates at full efficiency on oxygenated air, fitting an oil catch tank can enable the engine to gain horsepower, as well as prevent carbon & sludge build up in the induction system.

Simply removing the emissions & breather system will tend to result in a very grimy engine bay, as well as being detrimental to the environment, not being allowed on any race tracks and an MOT fail.

For race use cars showing any indications of oil fumes from their breather system will be required to fit a catch tank by the scrutineers.

The Oil Catch Tank basically filters the fumes and oil away from the top of your engine and allows the oil to collect in a Catch Tank. From here it is easily possible to drain this captured oil and dispose of it.

The best Oil Catch Tanks are made out of Aluminium, this offers you a light weight unit that is very strong and durable.

Most race tracks require the use of an Oil Catch Tank for safety reasons.

You can use a Baffled Oil Catch Tanks and Non-Baffled Oil Catch Tanks.

I trust you have found this interesting.

Thank you for your time.

How and Why to Fit an Oil Catch Tank?

Hello.

I am sure you are aware that obp manufacture a wide range of Aluminum products, one of the products is the Aluminum Oil Catch Tank.

Why fit an oil catch tank? If your engine breathes back into its induction system (usual on all engines after mid 1960s) it is recirculating oxygen-less oil-laden air back into the fuel mix.

As the induction system operates at full efficiency on oxygenated air then fitting a catch tank will gain horsepower, as well as prevent carbon & sludge build up in the induction system.

Simply removing the emissions & breather system will tend to result in a very grimy engine bay, as well as being detrimental to the environment, and an MOT fail.

Most race tracks require the use of a Oil Catch Tank for safety reasons.

obp offer Baffled Oil Catch Tanks and Non-Baffled Oil Catch Tanks.

I trust this has been useful to you.

Thank you for your time.

obp Tech Session Longer Life For Fuel Pumps

Hello.
I have just come accross this bit of information and feel it would be of interest to you and may even save a bit of your hard earned cash!

Electric Fuel Pump Precautions

The heart of the fuel injection system is the main fuel supply and the fuel pump needs to operate at 100% for the injection system to function correctly.

So , why are we talking ‘Fuel Pumps’?

Well, the purpose of this message is to ensure that we maximise our driving and racing enjoyment and reduce maintenance expense by taking note of the following points:

Fuel & Fuel Tank Contamination
Fuel Injection pumps are by design, manufactured to close (tight) tolerances to produce the desired high fuel pressure. Minute particles of contamination ie. water, rust or dirt entering the pump will prove fatal, causing permanent damage to the fuel pump.

Low Fuel Levels
People who consistently drive on reserve fuel levels run also the risk of failure. An injection pump operates at approximately 5000 revs/minute and relies on fuel to lubricate and cool the moving parts. Remember, next time you drive on reserve fuel, pump damage may be occurring. Fuel supplied by the petrol station can be contaminated, and this dirty fuel is just waiting at the bottom of your tank.

Pump Failed – Overheated
The above events result in the pump overheating over weeks or months, followed by final failure, and low fuel levels will also not help with the cooling process of the pump.

Blocked Fuel Filter
Always ensure that the Fuel Filter is maintained regularly. Fine contamination and fuel wax will restrict fuel flow causing back pressure on the fuel pump and restricting its natural function. This results in fuel cavitation followed by progressive pump damage and resulting in failure.

So please make sure that you:-

1) Avoid driving and ignoring the Low Fuel Warning Light.

2) If you are aware of fuel contamination, get the system cleaned, starting with the fuel tank!

3) Follow the maintenance program of your vehicle, which includes the fuel system.

Please Note:- If you have just removed a fuel pump, ask yourself why it failed. If you do not take a minute to consider this question, the New Pump may suffer the same fate!

An expensive oversight for just a moments thought!

Thank you for your time.

Race Car Baffled Oil Catch Tanks

Hello.

I trust you had a good Easter break. It is nice to have some OK weather and be able to get out and about.

obp have been listening and reacting to your ideas again.

This time it is the form of Baffled oil catch tanks.

Question: Why is it necessary to have a Baffle in a oil catch tank?

Answer: The Baffle condense the oil vapor in the tank, the oil drips to the bottom and it does not go through to your intake.

Please have a look at the units by clicking this link: Baffled Oil Catch Tank
